Halving #5 · 2028 The next Bitcoin halving

The fifth halving is expected around April 2028, at block 1,050,000. The reward for mining a block will fall from 3.125 to 1.5625 BTC.

How the date is estimated

A halving happens every 210,000 blocks. Blocks arrive about every ten minutes, but the actual time varies with mining power, so the date is an estimate that shifts by days or weeks. The live halving countdown recalculates it from the current block height.

After this halving, about 96.875 percent of all the bitcoin that will ever exist will have been mined. The final bitcoin is not expected to be mined until around the year 2140.

What came before

The previous halvings took place in 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024. Each cut the new supply in half. Whether the next one affects the price is debated, and nothing on this site predicts it.
