How old is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin’s first block, the genesis block, was mined on January 3, 2009, so Bitcoin turned 17 in January 2026. The counter at the top of this page shows its exact age right now, down to the second.

Your Bitcoin years are counted from the first day of the month you pick. Prices on this page are the Bitcoin price on the first day of each month, taken from the price history, and halvings are the four times the block reward was cut in half (see halving history).

Frequently asked questions

Who created Bitcoin?

Bitcoin was created by a person or group using the name Satoshi Nakamoto, whose identity is still unknown. Read the memorial for the story.

Is my date or my card stored anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you choose or type is sent to a server or saved, and the share link only contains the month you picked.

Why does the tool start in July 2010 for prices?

Bitcoin had no regular market price before July 2010. If you joined earlier, the card still shows your time and halvings, but not a price.

Can I share my card on social media?

Yes. Use Share on your phone to send it straight to an app, or download the image and post it anywhere. The share card is available in one landscape 16:9 format, keeping the BitcoinYears design consistent and clear.
