About About Bitcoin Years

Bitcoin Years is an independent, year-by-year guide to Bitcoin’s history, from the 2008 white paper to today. It shows what happened, what Bitcoin cost and why each year mattered.

What you will find here

Year by year covers every year from 2008, with dates, key events and a short explanation of why it mattered. Prices lists Bitcoin’s price by year and by month since 2010. Halving explains every halving and counts down to the next one. The memorial is an independent tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto.

How the data is compiled

Events come from public records, official announcements, the Bitcoin white paper and widely reported news. Where dates are approximate, the page says so.

Monthly prices show Bitcoin’s price in US dollars on the first day of each month, from July 2010. Year-end prices are approximate closing prices. Both are rounded and compiled from public price histories, including the Official Data Foundation and StatMuse, so they can differ slightly from other sources because Bitcoin trades on many exchanges.

Live data on the home page, the block height and the current price, is read from public market and blockchain services when the page loads. The halving date is an estimate based on recent block times.

Independence and limits

Bitcoin Years is not affiliated with Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin Core, any exchange or any foundation. The content is for general information and education only. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice.
