What happened
The second halving came after the long recovery from the Mt. Gox collapse. Rewards fell from 25 to 12.5 bitcoin per block.
The price was around $650 and the community was split over how to scale Bitcoin. Within eighteen months it had climbed to nearly $20,000.
The halving took place 1,319 days after the previous halving. On the first day of that month the price was $676.30. In the 18 months that followed, the highest first-of-month price was $13,657 in January 2018, +1,919% from where it started. Past results do not predict the future, and many things besides the halving affected the price.
