How to read it

Bitcoin has grown fast but unevenly. On a normal chart the early years disappear; on a log scale every tenfold move takes the same space, so the whole history fits. A straight trend line through that history, with bands above and below, shows when the price ran far ahead of its trend (red) and when it lagged far behind (blue).

Past bubbles peaked in the upper bands and bear markets ended in the lower ones, but the pattern is loose. Treat the bands as context, not signals. Nothing here is financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Bitcoin rainbow chart?

It is a long-term chart of the Bitcoin price on a logarithmic scale, with coloured bands drawn around a trend line. The bands give a rough sense of whether the price is high or low compared with its own history.

How is this rainbow chart calculated?

We fitted a straight line to the logarithm of Bitcoin's monthly price against the logarithm of the number of days since the Genesis Block (July 2010 to Oct 2026). The nine bands are equal steps above and below that trend line.

Can the rainbow chart predict the Bitcoin price?

No. It describes the past. Bitcoin can move outside every band, and the trend line itself changes as new data arrives. It is not financial advice.

Who created the rainbow chart idea?

The rainbow chart became popular in the Bitcoin community around 2014 and has been redrawn by many sites since. This version uses our own fit and band names.
