What happened
Years of rejected applications ended with the approval of several funds at once. A spot ETF holds actual Bitcoin and trades on a regular stock exchange, so people can get exposure through an ordinary brokerage account.
The funds attracted large inflows in their first months and were widely seen as a turning point for institutional access. The price set a new record in March 2024, before the fourth halving in April.
Why it mattered
ETFs made Bitcoin accessible to people who never wanted to run a wallet. More in Bitcoin in 2024.
